Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who applied. We had just shy of 500 applications this year (!!)
Yes, you read that right: 500! Steven and I were completely awed by the caliber or work this year. Guys, THERE IS SO MUCH TALENT OUT THERE!
We’ve debated publicizing our long list and/or short list, but our long list is verrrrry long and our short list not at all short, haha. Just know that if you applied, we were here in Spruceton Valley on the other side of the screen going, “Dang, and listen to this cool story!” and “Wow, did you see these illustrations?” and on and on. It was so hard to choose!
Our Artist Resident alums have been up to some seriously cool stuff too.
In a not even remotely exhaustive list, here are some updates:
Leigh Stein’s satirical Tik Tok hype house novel IF YOU’RE SEEING THIS, IT’S MEANT FOR YOU is a best seller as it damn well should be.
Tom Bulter has a new solo show I so wish I could see in person.
Jeremy Nguyen has another hilarious comic in the New Yorker.
Chukwuebuka Ibeh is now teaching at Bucknell.
Charlie Dyroff’s very clever novel LONELINESS & COMPANY just came out in a paperback with new, gorgeous moody blue cover.
Esther Chehebar’s debut novel I have been waiting not at all patiently for called SISTERS OF FORTUNE is finally out!
Grant Snider keeps making more brilliant comics.
Erin Van Der Meer’s hilarious satirical novel about a tabloid called THE SCOOP is available for pre-order now. (You don’t want to miss her promotional videos, haha!)
Ping Zhu keeps making gorgeous editorial art.
Maybe you missed Georgia Clark’s cozy upstate queer holiday rom-com MOST WONDERFUL? Order now it now so the moment the last leaves fall you’re ready for the season!
Nicholas Day just got an amazing write up in The NY Times for his brilliant young adult book about a volcanic eruption that changed more than the weather.
Kate McKean published an uber helpful how-to for writers called WRITE THROUGH IT.
Kelli Anderson’s gorgeous ALPHABET BOOK is out in the world!
Josh Corchron’s illustrations helped celebrate 100 year of The New Yorker.
Stephanie Gravalese is the new restaurant critic for the Albany Times Union!
Jordan Mann wrapped up a stunning run as Mercutio in Catskill Mountain Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.
Justin J. Wee photographed a certain mayoral candidate! :)
Susannah Cahalan put out a fascinating woman-behind-the-famous-man book about Rosemary Woodruff Leary and the psychedelic movement called ACID QUEEN.
Tatyana Fazlalizadeh has been recognized by Project for Empty Space as one of 15 Badass Art Women.
Chloe Caldwell’s stunning memoir TRYING arrived this summer (and I devoured it in a single sitting!).
Theresa Bloise is taking part in an open studio I wish I could go see.
And Stephanie Danler had a TV project with Lena Dunham and Emily Ratajkowski green-lit!
Just a few weeks left of our season…
So grab a room for this weekend, next, or October!
Btw, there seems to have been some confusion with our reservation system where folks are thinking we’re sold out on Saturdays because they’re crossed out on the calendar BUT WE’RE NOT! It’s this terrible system quirk where it’s only crossed out because it’s closed to arrival, aka, if you click on Friday as your arrival date and Sunday as your check out, you’re all good.
See ya soon?

So grateful and excited to be part of the residency this year! What a great group!
